Summer!!! The official weekend for sending off summer has just come to a close. Mind you, I know it isn't "official" by calander standards, however, this was the weekend in my youth that brought summer months of fun in the sun to a close until my toes could curl in the sand again.
Well since I didn't have the luxury of sending the summer off lying on the beach and feet in the sand, the send off wasn't a total waste. Just not my first choice of send off's :smile.
Little Ms. Prissy Princess's first few days of school went very well for all intent and purpose, however, she did get sick with a terrible cold. Which she couldn't wait to share with mama. So she and I spent the weekend medicated and hunkered down in bed. Speedbump had to work the local Blue's Fesitival in town Sunday evening and then Speedbump and Q15 went to the Ranger's game today.
For me the weekend was not a total waste though, I got to get some serious reading done :biggrin. I only have a library going on in my house and half unread, but books are my true addicition. So to send summer off in style I'll leave you with some wonderful selections for your reading time:
2 of the novels I read this weekend were written by Nicholas Sparks. "Nights in Rodanthe" and "The Guardian". I might not have been able to have my body at the beach, but Nights in Rodanthe took my mind there.
Then on to catching up on the unread novel by James Patterson "2nd Chance". As usual James Patterson does not disappoint his readers ~ one I hated putting down for anything but sleep does call one into's it trance. After reading the past three novels I still had a day to kill and figured, ohhh well, I'm on a role ~
So I began reading a new author I had purchased some time back Laurie Moore. The books title "The Lady Godiva Murder". Before opening up to the first page I read the reviews on the back of the book. One stated "Do not start reading at bedtime, unless you can sleep late in the morning, because you are not going to want to put this one down." Well how many books do we see that written on right so I ignored that warning and began reading ~
OMG 6 a.m. I was just finishing up the novel because I could not put it down. It was WONDERFUL!!! It is written by a local writer in the Ft. Worth area I read, who worked as a cop as well as a DA. The book takes you through a case a detcitive is working to save her partner who is falsely accused and hitting brickwalls due to politically appointed positions within the department.
I can't wait to go book shopping again and get some more of her books and I highly recommend those avid readers out there to pick this book up you'll not be disappointed.
I hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend, but unfortunately, all good things must come to a close. Luckily, I finished and closed my book before having to begin the regular grind of the upcoming week.
MY IDEA OF HOUSEWORK IS TO SWEEP THE ROOM WITH A GLANCE!!!

I'll have to add the Laura Moore book to my list of "to read" books. Sounds like Mother might like it too.
What? The weekend is over?? Where had the year gone?
You stayed up the whole night reading!?
I must really be getting old!
It is still Summer here! :-)
I am ready for summer to be over. I am looking forward to seeing Toby again in Oct. Plus you know how I love cooler weather. :)
I was scanning for reviews on my upcoming novel, CONSTABLE'S APPREHENSION (release date, Oct. 3, 2003) and ran across your posting on THE LADY GODIVA MURDER. You will be happy to know that the sequel to Lady Godiva comes out in April, 2004 and is called THE WILD ORCHID SOCIETY. It picks up where Lady Godiva leaves off. Thank you for your kind words. I have a separate series about the constable's office (CONSTABLE'S RUN and CONSTABLE'S APPREHENSION)and there are crossover characters like any real law enforcement community (I.E. Jinx Porter is a main figure in the constable series and also shows up in the Lady Godiva series).
So having said that and not really wanting to sound like a shameless ploy for advertising, I would love for you to come to my first book signing for CONSTABLE'S APPREHENSION which will be at Barnes & Noble Grapevine from 2-4 on October 18th. I'm also the keynote speaker for the Texans Writing to the World conference at Tarrant County College (NE Campus)on Sept. 26 from noon-1:30. If you come to either, please identify yourself to me. I would love to shake your hand. Laurie Moore
