Well today has been a blah day with thunderstorms starting in the wee morning hours around here and as I type this still pouring down rain ~ apparently SHE caused this because she had to wash her vehicle's yesterday :biggrin. Sorry Jen had to do it!!! :lol
Anyhoot advise needed
Little Ms. Prissy Princess is more than your child's average scared of thunderstorms ~ she is HORRIFIED from them and that is putting it mildly let me tell ya!! Well today is a day I had been dreading. We've had a few thunderstorms pass threw here since school has started but always after school was out or over the weekend. Today I was not so lucky!!!
Little Ms. Prissy Princess was so terrified by about 3 a.m. she was burning up with fever and complaining her stomach was upset and crying she didn't want to go to school. For the record is sooo NOT like Little Ms. Prissy Princess ~ she thinks school is the biggest social event of the season ~ she loves going to school!!!
So I let her stay home today and she hunkered down in my bed trying to crawl back inside me and I was finally able to consule her enough for her to fall asleep around 11'ish this a.m. ~ it didn't help our electricity went out either let me tell you that only compounded the issue. But luckily when she woke up the electricity was back on and her fears were laid to rest for a little bit.
Have any of you had problems like this with your little ones? And if so ~ how did you quael their fears so that they would at least function?
We've already tried the "God is moving his chair around" for thunder ~ "God is just turning on lights in heaven" for lightening ~ "God is crying" for rain ~ that worked until the tornato came through earlier this year and the sirens went off which happened to be located three houses down from our house ~ Now when we try that she yells NO IT ISN"T!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm hoping that I have some readers still skipping across my blog that can give me some good advise to use with her so then our family can function during thunderstorms.......
And I know it doesn't help she is just spoiled rotten either :smile
As far as Q15 is concerned ~ he and his little girlfriend went to church together last night ~ Speedbump took her home after church and come to find out we know her parents through an old neighbor of ours from the old neighborhood. Who owes us $$ and has come up missing for the past year and a half to avoid paying us back. Come to find out we got out light on the loaned $$$ issue and little girlfriends parents are also owed a great deal of $$$$. We have decided for Q15's birthday next week ~ we are going to have the little girlfriend over and her family for dinner and cake and the adults cocktails. Provided I get the day off from work so keep your fingers crossed :smile.
That's it for me today ~
SOME DAYS ARE JUST A WASTE OF MAKEUP

J~ I have never had to deal with that one with my little one. However I have had friends whose little ones were scared of the storms, and for the most part they provided them alot of light in there room, cool little night lights, and books about storms also came in handy.
Hope this helps
It's cool, I will take the blame for all your rain! :)
As far as the little one, she sounds old enough to know that the thunder is not a product of an object in heaven. So then, maybe you should provide an explanation that is more practicle to her. Tell her where thunder REALLY comes from and then ENSURE her safety. Maybe that will help. My niece which is 11 is terrified of thunder too, and I just had to be more practicle and offer her security. It did help some!
Jamie,
I asked Dear Husband about this, since he's the child expert in our house. He said that if the "God is crying" solution doesn't you might try the scientific method.
Explain to her just what thunder is, and teach her to count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder. For every second, the lightning is a mile away. Perhaps it will reassure her to be able to tell how far away the storm is.
